News

One more time, the most talented U14 players will be present in Tarbes to fight for the trophy. Let’s see the players to follow this year.

MANAS DHAMNE (IND)

At only 11 years old, the Indian player has won the Asia Playoffs Lacoste last November. He also won Eddie Herr U12 tournament and played the 1/2 final of the Orange Bowl U12. He will try for sure to keep going this way in Tarbes.

REN YUFEI (CHI)

The young Chinese coached by Carlos Rodriguez (former coach of Justine Henin and Li Na) will be to follow this year. Qualified thanks to her 4th place during the Asia Playoffs Lacoste, Ren Yufei has also played the WTA Future Stars in Shenzhen during the WTA Finals. She won 4 matches and lost 2. She will be one of the dangerous players of the girls’ draw.

LEO COHEN-BACRIE (FRA)

After his first participation in Les Petits As – Le Mondial Lacoste last year (defeated 7/5, 6/4 in the 1st round), the young French player will want to do better in 2020. Winner of the Mouratoglou Cup U12, Passagespoirs and French Champion U12 in 2018, the member of the French Practice Center has lived a 2019 year pretty difficult due to some injuries. If his body gets better in 2020, he can be a player very tough to beat.

SHANICE ROIGNOT (FRA)

The young player coming from the South of France has already played the tournament twice. Defeated in the last round of the National Qualifications draw in 2018, she lost in the 2nd round of the main draw in 2019 and is improving every year. She has already gotten great results. In 2018, she becomes French Champion U12 and 1/2 finalist of the Orange Bowl in Florida (defeated by Brooklyn Olson, qualified for Les Petits As – Le Mondial Lacoste this year after her 1/2 final in the USA Playoffs Lacoste). She made a remarkable 2019 season, winning the Open Super 12 Auray, the TCBB Open 10/12 and Passagespoirs. 2020 started nicely for her too, as she was 1/4 finalist Khimki for a Tennis Europe Super Category tournament. Will she confirm these great results in Tarbes?

ANTONIO VOLJAVEC (CRO)

Member of “Les Petits Crocos” – program initiated by Lacoste and Tecnifibre, the young Croatian will participate in Les Petits As – Le Mondial Lacoste for the 2nd time in his life. For his first experience in Tarbes last year, he lost in the 1st round. For sure, he will try to improve this year. His 1/2 final at the Orange Bowl U12 in 2018 shows that he has the ability to make a good tournament. Winner of 2 Tennis Europe tournaments in 2019, he will try to confirm his good season in 2020. Why don’t start in Tarbes?

IVANNA YASTREMSKA (UKR)

Recently arrived on the Tennis Europe tour, the young Ukrainian player will participate in the tournament for the first time. The younger sister of Dayana Yastremska – #22 WTA player – will try to follow the footsteps of her sister and reach the highest WTA ranking possible in the future. A good result in Tarbes would certainly be an important step forward for her.

PETR BRUNCLIK (CZE)

The young Czech player will participate for the 2nd time of his life in Les Petits As – Le Mondial Lacoste. Last year, he lost in the 1st round against the runner-up of the tournament, Rashed Nawaf. 1/4 finalist of the Open Super 12 Auray and winner of the Open 10-12 TCBB in 2018, Petr had still some good results on the junior European tour. 1/2 finalist of the Tennis Europe Super Category tournament of Khimki in Russia, he will try to confirm his good start of the season in Tarbes.

ENA KOIKE (JAP)

Winner of the Asia Playoffs Lacoste this year, the Japanese will try to make a good tournament in Tarbes and to follow the footsteps of the last Asian player winner of the tournament – Alexandra Eala. 1/8 finalist of the Orange Bowl U12 in 2018, Ena has already experienced one of the biggest junior tournaments of the world. Will it be enough to make a good result in Tarbes? We’ll see on the 2nd of February.

MARTIN LANDALUCE (ESP)

Winner of 2 Tennis Europe tournaments in 2019, the young Spanish has started his 2020 season by winning the Tennis Europe Super Category tournament of Khimki. Currently #2 of the U14 Tennis Europe ranking, Martin Landaluce will be one of the favorite of this edition.

NIKOLA BARTUNKOVA (CZE)

#1 of the U14 Tennis Europe ranking, the young Czech has won 3 Tennis Europe Category 1 tournament and 2 ITF Junior tournament, Nikola will be one of the players to follow this year. Currently #233 of the ITF Junior ranking (at only 13 years old!!!), she will be of the favorite in the girls’ draw. After Linda Fruhvirtova’s victory last year, will the trophy remain in Czech Republic?

ATAKAN KARAHAN (TUR)

Tennis Europe U14 #1 and winner of 4 Tennis Europe tournaments last year, Atakan will come to Tarbes with the willingness to lift the trophy in 2020. Runner-up on the Tennis Europe Super Category tournament of Khimki in Russia in 2020, the 1/4 finalist of the Eddie Herr tournament in 2018 could become the 1st player from Turkey to win Les Petits As – Le Mondial Lacoste.

CLERVIE NGOUNOUE (USA)

The young American has already a great record. She won the Orange Bowl U12 and was the runner-up of the Eddie Herr tournament U12 (2 of the main junior tournaments of the world) in 2018. In 2019, she is the runner-up of the Orange Bowl U16 (at only 13 years old!), winner of the USA Playoffs Lacoste and winner of the WTA Future Stars in Shenzhen (junior competition during the WTA Finals). She is already #345 on the ITF Junior ranking and will be a very tough player to beat in Tarbes.

BRENDA FRUHVIRTOVA (CZE)

Let’s finish this list with a player who already played in Tarbes last year. She lost in the 2nd round of the singles draw. But the young Czech made a big tournament in double, winning the trophy with her sister Linda. In 2019, she was also 1/2 finalist of the Eddie Herr tournament U16 (at only 12 years old!), and winner of the Tennis Europe tournament of Stockholm (one of the new Super Category tournament). In 2018, she won the Eddie Herr tournament U14 (at 11 years old) and the Open Super 12 Auray. In 2017, she also won the Eddie Herr tournament U12 at only 10 years old. With such good results, we can imagine that Brenda will be one of the favourite to follow the footsteps of her sister and lift the trophy.

> We can add to this list some good players like Louis-Lou Langenaken (BEL), Théo Papamalamis (FRA), Kaylan Bigun or Alexander Razeghi (USA) for the boys and Weronika Ewald (POL), Sarah Iliev (FRA), Brit Martin (EST) or Daria Shadchneva (RUS) for the girls.
