Historic. The first French girl to win Les Petits As since 1984!
What a performance from Mathilde NGijol Carré.
Today, on a crowded Centre Court, the young Frenchie (1m82) was forced into a 3-set battle by the Israeli Mika Buchnik. The two youngsters felt a great load of pressure on their shoulders at the beginning of the match. After losing the first set, Mathilde NGijol Carré fought back and took the control of the match. She didn’t let it go from there and closed the match (4/6, 6/2, 6/1). The talented Israeli offered a great fight until the end. Mika Buchnik can be proud of the week she’ve had.
For Mathilde NGijol Carré, it’s a piece of history and the beginning of an exciting journey. The last time a French girl won Les Petits As – Le Mondial Lacoste, it was the 2nd edition of the tournament. The wait is over.
