Ranked 155th ATP at only 18, Corentint Moutet is a great hope for the future of French tennis. Leader of the new generation, the Parisian talks about his participation to Les Petits As and its impact on his career.
Tell us about your experience at Les Petits As…
It’s a really great memory for me! I was just getting back from injury at this time, I was just happy to finally play again. Even if I lost early in the tournament (round of 16), I still have a very good feeling about this event.
What makes Les Petits As a special event for the young players? What did it bring to you?
I have learned a lot playing at Les Petits As. The organization looks like a professional event, when you’re 14 years old, you’re really impressed. There is a particular atmosphere with the first signatures and interviews. We play again the best players from all around the world and I remember I lost in front of a lot of spectators. At this age, it’s not that easy to lose in front of that many people. In fact, I have learned a lot about how to handle a match under the pressure. It was a lesson how to handle defeats also. I remember that I was so disappointed after losing but I used this experience to grow and to progress. Finally, after Les Petits As, I made a successful season.
How do you define the impact of Les Petits As on your career?
I will define it as a “learning tournament”. It is trully teaching you what is tennis. First, because it’s highest level you can play when you are 14, then because of everything around: organization, venue, spectators, journalists, etc. I’m impressed by the job of these people, who make this tournament happens in a such level! I would dream to win Les Petits As!
Did you feel any kind of particular pressure or expectations on the French players? What advise will you give to the kids who will play the tournament in 2018?
I did not feel any kind of particular pressure due to my French nationality.
To the young players, I would advise to enjoy the moment and to search for pleasure. They may win or they may lose, they have to learn from this great experience.
